Monthly Review

August 8th 2018
My first Week Review is Beyond The Grey! I must say I had to they are one of the band I couldn't get out of my head! Their sound is beyond amazing! The song Insanity is way catchy and different than others I have heard. They have a good clean look that grabbed me. There was not a song I didn't like! They remind me the good old days of grudge with the guitar and drum sounds. I love Davids voice and he goes well with the music. They have a original sound of their own I have heard right now. I simply loved the bass in the start of the song Overflow. It really adds to the song. Grabs the attention to want to hear the rest. Grave Digger also has a great bass start, and the music sets a good tone for the title! Has a good old time down home feel. I hear it in my head as I'm playing pool in a good local bar! They truly deserved my first review. So check them out you won't be misled! My thanks goes out to David for letting me review your music!

Bio:
Beyond The Grey is a Kansas City based Rock/Metal band, made up of 5 members with years of experience in other bands. They have now been writing and recording together for close to two years. Some call them a mix of Disturbed and Alice in Chains, but other influences include Godsmack, Tool, Korn, The Cure, DepecheMode, Deftones, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Cheap Trick. Their collective history has enabled them to come up with songs full of rockin’ guitars, bass lines you feel in your bones, powerful drums, and passionate vocals.
Beyond The Grey is quickly establishing it-self as one of the top hard rock/metal bands in Kansas City. Opening for bands such as Bang Tango, Smile Empty Soul, Lacey Sturm (Fly-Leaf), Bobaflex and Madame Mayhem...They plan to take that momentum to surrounding states in 2018.

Grand Ultra
September 2nd 2018
My second week review is Grand Ultra. I chose them because of their sound is different from the rest I've heard. But at the same time Joe's voice is eerily sounds a lot like Mike Patton of Faith No More. But past that they have their own sound, and caught my attention. They for sure a great British invasion as they are from East Midlands, UK. Each song has an original feel to it. While "Won't Let it Go", has an old 80's feel to it, and "Fade to Grey" has that 90's rock going on. I really liked their two songs "Less You Know" , "No Friend of Mine" , and "Mirror Mirror" with the deep bass at the start, has a freaky Blues sound. You can hear their influence from Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin the most! They may say their heavy Metal on their facebook page, but I must say their a genre of their own. I hope you like and will check out this latest week review installment! Because they can fit almost any of your favorite genre.

BIO:
Tell us a bit about yourself? We are a hard rock/metal band from the East Midlands UK. Our influences range from the 70's giants such as Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin through the 80's into bands like Metallica, Megadeth and more modern bands such as Avenged Sevenfold and Dream Theater. We don't limit our range and you'll hear that if you listen to more than one song of ours.
There are a lot of emerging artists in the UK right now. What sets you apart from the rest? I don't know what a lot of the emerging artists sound like. That's not to say we don't like new music. I love discovering new bands. What we do is whatever we think sounds good without thinking 'It should be this style' or 'We can't put that in. It doesn't fit the genre.' Nothing is off the table. If we like it. It goes in. Maybe we're not very different to everyone else. I think that's more for the listener to tell us.
What’s your back-story? Our tracks cover a range of topics from environmentalism (Change), to mental health (Here We Are) and the normal relationship stuff we all encounter. The track 'No Friend of Mine' is a particular favourite for it's jazzy intro but I love the chorus lyrics. 'If you want me baby get in line, after all you're giving me the eye, i got a lot of love but not tonight, I know you're no friend of mine,' I love the whole album and could go through the whole thing but it's best just to listen to it yourself.
What are you working on at the moment? We are currently working on promoting 'Here We Are' however we can and writing song for the next album already. it's none stop.
What's the first song you remember hearing? I think it was something by Michael Jackson. He was and still is the best pop artist of all time. It might have been Dirty Diana. I'm not sure but he was my first musical love. I still love it now. I know it's not metal but his music is so good.
You're in a Karaoke Bar - What's your go to song? I'm not the singer but I can just about pull off Bryan Adams 'The only thing that looks good on me'.
What was the first gig you went to? Sum 41 at the Ice Arena in Nottingham. I was into pop punk at that age. I don't care too much for it now but i remember enjoying it.
Which song do you wish you'd written? There are loads. Anything by Michael Jackson. Classic Metallica.
Which song changed your life? It was Limp Bizkit 'Take a look Around'. The mission impossible 2 soundtrack. That song wanted to make me play the guitar because I loved that heavy guitar sound and the way it made me feel. very aggressive. It's probably the song that got me into heavy music. I don't like to admit it too much now but this is just between us right?...
Which song would you like played at your funeral? I'll be dead so i won't care. Possibly my entire discography in a last ditch attempt to promote my music even when i'm dead.
What song is stuck in your head right now? Michael McDonald - 'I keep forgetting'. That should require an explanation i feel but i don't have one.
What was the first Album you bought? Kid Rock - The history of Rock. It had the Undertaker Theme song 'American Badass' on it and i was big into WWE/WWF at the time.
Which song made you want to play music? Limp Bizkit as mentioned before but I'll add Iron Maiden and Joe Satriani to that as they did inspire me as well.

OF CLARITY
January 24th 2019
My January addition for new year Monthly Review addition is Of Clarity! I am very grateful they came to me on Instagram, and wanted to share with me their music!! Thank you guys!! I loved their newest album "Derelict" as soon as I heard it! I loved the electronicicore start followed by hardcore metal! The whole band works well together from beginning to end! Each song from I.Genesis to Transgressions blends into each song smoothly but yet brutal! My favorites are Haunted Streets, I get this one stuck in my head the rhythm truly does haunt you. Another haunting is Not all will rise, I really love this one! The deep and high growling, the haunting guitar riffs, slow and fast tones! I'd love to see this live!! Right in the middle of the music tracks is a really cool 2 minute electronic track -IdyII-. I like it it's a good pause to the other end of great brutal!! There is 16 songs in all on the newest album! I also gave a listen to their past albums and loved them too!! Their 2017 album"Trapped" and the one before in 2016 that "Paradise". All three deserves a listen! I'm so excited that I got to get to know this music! Once more thank you Of Clarity!!

Interview with Of Clarity
(with Tracy bassist for Of Clarity)
1.Let’s start out with, Tell me a bit about your band and how it got all started?
Of Clarity was started by Trent Baker in 2012 as a teenager as a solo project. Trent in his teenage years worked hard on learning vocals, guitar, and how to record and master on his own. Doing a ep [ Paradise ] and Finally releasing his first album in 2017 [ Trapped ] and also to release a ep [ Where there's a hell there's a way ] and one more album as a solo artist in 2018 [ Derelict ]. Mid 2018 me ( Tracy ) knowing Trent from high school and actually being in a band with him as kids before Of Clarity was personally was going through some hard times in life having being put in jail three times at the beginning of 2018 for a gun charge and other charges related to it. I beat my cases but wanted to try to find better friends to surround my self with and wanted to find a way to express my emotions in a healthy manner. So I called Trent up one day mid 2018 to see if I could join his solo project and try to form it into a band. We he accepted and we got our old guitarist from our childhood band and another closed friend from high school to play guitar as well. As for our drummer we found him from facebook but are very glad to have him and he has made him self family over the last few months. So Actually the album coming out in 2019 will be the first none solo project by Of Clarity.
2.What are some bands or music that influenced your music?
The Plot In You
Slipknot
Trivium
Slayer
Silent planet
System Of A Down
3. If you were asked by another musician what it takes to make it as a band, What would you tell them?
Honestly it takes a lot of things. Trent is really great at recording and writing instrumentals and lyrics. Me personally I write lyrics as well but I also do a lot of our social media marketing to get new listeners, our drummer owns his own studio so he also has a lot of help with mastering and recording and both our guitarist have worked really hard on making sure the riffs are different and as powerful and unique as possible. It takes every member pulling weight in a way shape or form for a band to work. It's stressful at times no doubt but it's a brother hood. And sometimes you and your brothers hate each other.
4. What is your most favorite song to play, and why?
When we play live we play a brand new set not even released on any social media or listening platforms as of now. But we have a song called Burn Out that I love with a passion. There's small clips on our Instagram of the new set to check out @ofclarityofficial the song is about basically being a failure at life and knowing you're toxic but not knowing what really To do about it except accept it. It's a really bass oriented song in some parts and it's a lot of fun.
5. What is the story behind the song “Open your eyes” pt 1 and 2? Why is Pt. 2 on your earlier album, and pt. 1 on the second out of order? Very interesting!
Part one is was originally on a ep called [ Paradise ] that is not very well known or on any streaming platform but YouTube. What Trent did was he revamped the song and basically redid it with his new found age and better knowledge of recording compared of when Paradise was released. Oh and there's a part three coming wink wink.
6. What is your least favorite music, and why?
We don't really hate on anyone. But I don't think country is being played in any of our cars either.
7. Your music does sound a lot different than most out there! What do you think of the bands just put out the same stuff all the time?
We came to play not judge. All we can do is try our hardest to not fall into the category
8. Where is your favorite place to play, and when/where is your next shows?
Honestly we love house shows. But right now we're mastering the new album we're currently working on so we don't plan on having any shows until later in the year.
9. What would you like to say to your fans?
We love you bitches.
10. Anything else would you like to say that I didn’t cover in the interview?
We actually have three bigger artist featured on our next album. I will go ahead and let go of one.
Our first bigger feature is Andrew Zink from BROJOB [ @brojobofficial ]. He will be featured on a song titled Daddy.
Shout out to Until the dead walk [ @utdw_official ]

Of Clarity - Paradise FULL ALBUM STREAM

Swallow The Sun
May 27th 2019
As I was picking my song for my Music Guru May picklist Trees of Eternity. I wondered what Juha Raivio was up to now. I found out his band Swallow The Sun released a new album on January 25th 2019. Titled "When A Shadow is Forced into The Light" which has eight songs total. They are based out of Finland in Jyväskylä. Their genre is said to be Death or doom metal, but I must say their sound is something else. You do hear the doom metal in their songs, but it also has mythical original sound to it. I have always liked when the singer can do a soft tone but growl like no ones business. Yes Mikko can do this very well. Their titled song and also first song on the album "When a Shadow is Forced Into The Light" is a perfect example of this. Very mellow but yet a growl that captures your passion like a savage beast. There is songs he can do a lovely voice throughout the whole song like "The Crimson Crown" and a couple of others on the album too. I will let you find the ones for yourself. As "Firelights" starts out slow and brings up the music tempo. Very smoothing and yet very thundering at the end. With the music off this album I can picture a night with candles and a partner of your choice alone. Drinking each other incense, but that's my vision. Throughout the album has the same theme that blends together as you ease into the next. I like the very last song "Never Left" with the stringed instruments adding a certain feel. A classic feel with a added metal genre. What a great mix! I am sorry I found out I missed them in Syracuse back in April. I would of like to see them in person.

This Month's review is Gravehuffer. I have promised Ritchie a review since I started the website. So I thought it was about time, but perfect timing! They have a new album coming out this month! The tracks off the album is pretty good too by the way, and I love the poster I got of their's too!! But I'll get to the interview with them, and let Gravehuffer tell you more!! Thank you guys for everything!!
\m/ Written by Jennifer Cook/Phoenix Ravenmoon
BIO:
Since their inception in 2008, Gravehuffer has crafted their sound into an other-worldly amalgamation of Crust, Punk, Metal, Grindcore, and unapologetic down-tuned Sludge-laden Doom.
From the remnants of former projects Initial Detonation, H.R.B., and Aether Bunny, Krom was formed. Krom evolved into what is now known as Gravehuffer. Without ever making a conscious effort to do so, the Joplin, Missouri band proudly shuns the confines of genre confinements and so-called rules for the sake of the music itself and their collective creative output. Featuring James Hiser on vocals, Ritchie Randall on guitar, and a rhythm section comprised of Mike Jilge on bass, and Kasey Denton on drums, Gravehuffer steers clear of trends and limits by being themselves and letting the music take them where it wants to go. With an assortment of 28 original songs in their repertoire that showcase the vast array of influence the band pulls from and a fearlessness to never conform or compromise, Gravehuffer is in it for the sake of the songs and the art itself in a world where most are content to follow rather than lead.
Gravehuffer were signed on with Bluntface Records for a special vinyl release of their acclaimed Your Fault album, which features 2 bonus tracks and a guest solo by former Carcass lead guitarist Carlo Regadas.
They are now currently signed with NoSlip Records to release a 4 song vinyl EP in late winter/early spring 2019!
Interview with Gravehuffer:
1. Tell me a little bit about the band itself?
My name is Ritchie Randall and I play guitar and sing backing vocals. Our singer is James Hiser. Our bass player is Mike Jilge, and our new drummer is Kasey Denton. Larry Deardorff was our drummer from 2008 to 2016. We're a cross of thrash metal and punk with some sludge and doom vibes as well. We started in the summer of 2008, releasing an album called Chaotic Evil in 2009 on Reality Impaired Recordings. We initially went by KROM, until we started getting confused with other bands with the same name. We changed our name to Gravehuffer in late 2011. We released the album Blasphemusic in the summer of 2012, also on Reality Impaired Recordings. It contains 6 new songs, as well as the Chaotic Evil album, just to reintroduce those songs to people just getting into us since the name change. After spending 2013 playing lots of shows, we decided to spend 2014 writing a new album. We would write a few songs, and then play them at a show, write a few more, and then play those. Basically we 'road tested' all the songs live to get some feedback. We finally released Your Fault on CD, cassette and digital in early 2017 on Reality Impaired Recordings. We were supposed to release it on vinyl as well, but the label who were putting it out went under. We ended up getting Bluntface Records to help with the vinyl release. Also at this time, our drummer decided he didn't want to play shows anymore. We were on hiatus for about a year before we got Matt Browning from a band called Public Assassin. Matt played with us for about a year, also recording drums for 1 of the 2 vinyl exclusive bonus tracks. Larry played drums on the other song. We also had a guest solo from Carlo Regadas who used to be one of the guitar players in Carcass! Matt eventually left and we got Kasey, who is also in a hardcore band called Primitive Rage among several other projects. We left Bluntface and signed with NoSlip Records to record a 2 song EP on vinyl. Kasey has been a great addition, bringing a more hardcore punk rock vibe to things. We recorded the 2 songs with Kasey and started playing a lot more shows. This basically brings things to where we are now.
2. Tell me about your new album coming out in June?
We have a new EP coming out in June. It has 2 songs, called Demon Face, and Stalingrad's Cross. NoSlip thought it would be a good idea to test the waters with us and do a 7 inch vinyl EP, so we thought why not put art on both sides of the cover. We had art commissioned for each song by 2 different artists, and they turned out so cool! The vinyl is also be released in 4 colors: black w/ white splatter, white w/ black splatter, smokey gray, and solid white. One of the splatter variants comes with a Gravehuffer slip mat as well. All in all a very cool and unique release, showing all facets of our sound and introducing a few new wrinkles in the sound as well. We're really excited about it!
3. Where can we find you? Where are you touring?
We can be found on most of the major social media platforms and digital download sites.

4. What is your favorite song to play?
My personal favorite is a tossup between Destroyer Of Worlds, XR-750, and Demon Face.
5. What bands influenced your music?
Slayer, Napalm Death, Brutal Truth, Voivod, Morbid Angel, Judas Priest, Mercyful Fate, Mastodon, Black Sabbath, Celtic Frost, Venom, Black Flag, Mob 47, Ausrotten, Rudimentary Peni, Nausea, Iron Maiden, Suicidal Tendencies and so much more.
6. Where did the name of your band come from?
A good friend of ours who goes by Dozer, had a band he was trying to start. He was going to call it Gravehuffer. Needless to say the band never materialized, and when we were looking to change our name, we asked Dozer if we could use his Gravehuffer name and he said 'as long as I get a free shirt out of the deal every once in a while.' hahaha so that's how that all came to be.
7. What is the best advice you can give a musician first starting out?
Be dedicated no matter what. Play music for yourselves and not anyone else. Be nice to everyone you meet. Make lots of friends and connections. Network. Do interviews. Play lots of shows. Never be afraid to ask questions. I could go on but these are some really basic ones.
8. The song you released off your newest album "Demon Face/Stalingrad's Cross", what is it about?
The song Demon Face is about this man named Edward Mordrake. He supposedly lived in the late 19th century, and had a parasitic twin face in the back of his head. The lyrics revolve around how this 'demon face' as he called it, basically drove him mad. It was always in the opposite mood that he was and would whisper 'things from hell' to him while he tried to sleep. No doctor would attempt to remove it, no matter what Edward said or how much he offered. He finally killed himself at age 23 by drinking a bottle of poison. The music builds in intensity to reflect how he must've felt as this thing drove him to his death.
9. Finally is there anything you would like add what I didn't include in the questions?
We would like to thank you for taking the time to talk with us, all promo and radio who supports the underground, and everyone who comes to shows and buys merchandise to support local underground music. Cheers and hails!

July 9th 2019
July's addition of Monthly review is girl power once again! Thanks to TAG Publicity and Song River, I bring you Aurin! Great minds think alike and thought up for July's issue to take a seat for the ladies of Rock and Metal. Aurin is an awesome example of this. Their latest release song in June, "Pause Rewind Repeat" does rock it out! I heard it and knew I had to review the band! I have always love bands with a girl lead. Sarah's singing has power behind it, and performance to go with it! She can have a sweet voice but growl with the best! Their latest album will be released late summer to early fall. But I suggest to you to listen to all their albums that are out now!! Their 2014 release "Catharsis" is really good also! The very first song "November" brags you at the start. "The Reprisal" has a different feel and would be awesome live! In their 2011 release "The Pre-Inspired Symphony" has the song "Holding On" that shows where I say she can growl and be soft too. But take a listen for yourself! Let Sarah tell you more in her interview with me! Up next......

Aurin- Sarah: Interview for July issue* Sarah Anderson
1. Tell me a little about your band Aurin?
We are a four piece hard rock band from New Jersey and are coming out with our third album "Serotonin" to be released later this year. This is a really exciting time for us, as we have been working mainly behind the scenes during these past several months, writing, recording, and getting ready for the release of this album. We can't wait to finally share it with you all!
2. When is your release date for your new album? Tell me more about the songs and album name?
The album is slated for release between late Summer and early Fall through The Label Group/InGrooves Music. We are working on finalizing the release date at this moment. Getting an album ready for release is like putting the pieces of a puzzle together!
As far as the songs on the album go, we have 6 brand new tracks and 1 acoustic song. These songs were mainly inspired by struggles with depression and mental illness, losing loved ones to suicide, and the perseverance of hope in humanity through the decline of society. We also have a song on there inspired by Albert Camus' novel "The Stranger
The album is entitled "Serotonin" and named after one of the first songs that we wrote with our new bassist Lisa. At the time we weren't sure when we would be releasing our next record, but this song was really important to me and I knew after we wrote it that I wanted the next album to be titled after it.
3. Your first song release on the album, what is "Pause, Rewind, Repeat" all about?
"Pause Rewind Repeat" is about the reality of political divides tearing people apart. It becomes increasingly difficult to turn on the television or watch the news, when a lot of what we see is the result of hatred towards one another. We need to try harder to unite and rise up together against the boundaries placed between us.
4. Sarah, what is it like being a girl lead singer in a band?
For most of my life I have been the girl singer in bands. I have never really felt like my gender has effected me negatively WITHIN any of my projects. Though, I have had men outside of the band say vulgar, inappropriate, and sexist things. This hasn't happened only to me though, I know people have told Linda that she is a good drummer for a girl (to me that suggests that one thinks women can't play the drums)... All in all, I do feel like there may be some added pressure on us externally to have to prove ourselves, or stand up against harassment.
5. What are some bands that influence you?
I feel like everything I have listened to over the years has collectively influenced me. If I could trace it back to a few bands that had a major influence in wanting to join a rock band, I would have to say Pink Floyd, Alice in Chains, No Doubt, Kittie, Lacuna Coil, Arch Enemy, and others I can't think of right now.
6. What is it really like touring?
I love getting to travel and spend quality time with my band mates while out on the road. It is also really awesome to see different places, and get the chance to play with different musicians (sometimes they are even people you idolize). There can be a lot of downtime in between load in, soundchecks, and performances. It can be a challenge sometimes during those times keeping yourself occupied in an unfamiliar place. All in all though, I think we have a great time on tour and love getting to meet and play for new people!
7. Where can we find you on the road?
Currently we don't have any dates scheduled, though we will have some dates soon so stay tuned!,
8. What if you could give advice to a new musician starting out, what would it be?
Anyone with a dream can become good at something with enough hard work and practice. It was at my most desperate time when my entire life was falling apart that I met Andrew and we got Aurin off the ground. I had been in many failed or disbanded projects. At times I even thought I was crazy for still wanting to keep going. Even getting to the point where we are now, took many years of trial and error. There are always opportunities out there, and if something fails that just means you just might have to take a different road to get there!
9. What is your favorite song to play?
I like to play the song "Stained" from our album Catharsis. That song has kind of a dark and "grungy" vibe to it.
10. If you could pick a song to cover what would it be?
I really want to cover "I feel you" by Depeche Mode. It's a great song, and I think with our different styles in the band we could pull it off. I will admit though, it is intimidating wanting to cover a song by a great band like that. Who knows? Maybe one day it will happen!
11. Anything you would like to add I didn't cover?
We want to thank everyone who has been supporting us throughout the next chapter of our journey! Thank you to everyone who has been listening to "Pause Rewind Repeat", and to those who have been backing our Kickstarter campaign. We are almost at our goal and this is all possible because of YOU! We have a new single and video coming your way soon, and I think this one might tug at your heart strings!

Our future Leaders

September 16th 2019
The band was brought to my attention by Song River of TAG Publicity. Our Future Leaders has the newest release song "You're the Void" and it does stick with you! It has a message behind it that goes with the world today. The band sound is different from others. You could hear one song, and another has a completely different feel. It would be interesting to hear what they will put out next! For example I do like their past song "Sleep Silent" and it sounds amazing also. It has a heavier feel to it. Their album in 2011 "Machines" has yet another sound which reminds me of the old times of the 90's. I must say if you like to hear something to brings back happier memories. Give Our Future Leaders a listen! You won't be disappointed. Here is their interview with the band! You'll much more!! Thank you guys! I enjoyed doing it!

Interview With Our Future Leaders
1. Tell me a little bit about your band?
We’re a rock band at the core, but I’ve always felt the need to lean into other genres since I also enjoy a wide variety. I moved to Orlando, FL from Jacksonville, FL and started a band with a couple of Jacksonville buddies called Breach of Peace. I reached out for a lead guitar player on Myspace I think back when that was a thing, that’s where I found Danny Foote and we really hit it off. We played a bunch of shows for a while, recorded a few demos, & eventually changed the name to Our Future Leaders. We’ve had several members come and go over time, but as Our Future Leaders we’ve been together since about 2010-2011. Daniel Blume joined on drums and we released our first EP “Machines” in 2011.
2. Your single "You're the Void" is amazing, what is the song all about?
Thank you very much! Have you ever worked at a job that makes you feel like nothing you do matters? It's written about the current disconnect between people and that feeling of worthlessness. It was a collaboration with a buddy of mine @therealjeremus that actually started out as a remix he produced that I was just adding guitar to. The song was so completely transformed but we didn't love the vocals, so I suggested we make it an original. I ended up with this really cool new hook using lyrics I had written recently which was that line "You're just the voice on the other side of this box, you're just the void, I don't have to scream, but I want to". We're really proud of how it turned out.
3. When is your latest album due to be released?
Probably some time early next year. We're going to be releasing singles for the foreseeable future, it's just more practical with the way things are right now. Albums are costly and time consuming for independent bands. We'll put together an EP once there's 5 or 6 songs and we'll see how that goes. This will allow us to focus on the quality of the songs and release music more frequently.
4. Our Future Leaders is a interesting band name, how did it come about?
The name Our Future Leaders essentially came from asking the question “Who is the music for?” There are a lot of political themes and world views because I write about my world around me. While I'm often cynical and many of the lyrics are written from frustration...hopefully, the idea is to inspire people who may someday become our future leaders.
5. What bands have influenced you?
The first band I really got into was Rush when I was like 8 years old. I would listen to A Farewell to Kings cassette on the bus to school with this little radio. I grew up in the 90’s, so I’m heavily influenced by bands like the Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Silverchair, etc. But I'm also into classics like Zeppelin, Queen, Prince, George Clinton, Bill Withers.
6. If you could talk to your younger self just starting out in music, what would you tell yourself to do differently or not change?
I would say to invest in the craft and record professional quality music as soon as possible. The quality of the music has to be paramount, the rest is secondary.
7. Where can you be found live?
We don't have anything booked just yet. We’re planning some potential live show dates after the release of the next single, maybe a small tour schedule.
8. Who are your biggest supporters you'd like to thank?
Joe Montalvo, Angel Perry, Bevan Cook, Kerri Mackay, Monica Benson, Rous Taseo, Shane Bryant, Jonathan Pruitt, Mike Fern, Gabriel Sanders, Bill Ricci, Jen Plant, Song River, Kayle Ali and my parents. I'm probably forgetting someone and I'm sorry lol.
9. If there anything I left out please add it here?

Watch Me Breathe
October 14th 2019
My October Monthly review is Watch Me Breathe. His newest album release was September 20th, 2019 and titled “The Strange pull of what You Really Love”. Nine different tracks with an upbeat sound. Like taking a road trip to a fun place.
The band formed in 2017 with the front man Jake Aaron Ward. He writes and composes his music all on his own. He has a combo of various underground metal bands, Peter Gabriel and the Goo Goo dolls. But when he’s on tour he has his trio Ryan Green on Bass, baby brother Carl Ward on drums and Jake singing with his guitar. Jake wanted to put out his own music and not just for others. As he said in their press release, “As a solo artist, I just got fed up with trying to write music only to please other people. Watch Me Breathe is really an experiment that says: what would I write if nobody else was listening?” It seems to be working with have many who follow them on Utube and Spotify. Makes sense they also have a California feel to them being based out of that state. It sounds like Jake went through a great journey through this album. It will be interesting to hear what he comes up with after this one. As he finds new ways through music and enjoys what he does.
I will admit it’s not my normal kind of music. But I would think he’d like to hear that. I don’t think he wants to be the normal kind of music right now. I really do like his acoustic version of “Here and Now”. It was also release with their new album. With lovely wooded background, peaceful way to watch his music! I can picture a bonfire and quaint atmosphere. Thank you once again to Song River for bringing the music to my attention. I was honored to help promote Watch Me Breathe.

The L.A. Maybe
October 22nd 2019
This month's latest review is The L.A. Maybe. They brought themselves to my attention and ask me to do their review. I gladly would of course! Thank you Rahsaan Lacey and the bassist from the band! They are a band out of Charlotte, NC with a classic metal feel. Their newest album just release a few days ago on October 18th 2019. There is four different songs on the EP. When I listened to each song I heard an upbeat feel with a Black Crowes sound. They also have that old time feel of the 80s, and the good feel of a night at your favorite bar. As they give an old time band feel live on stage. Do check them out!!

Interview with The L.A. Maybe
1. Tell me a bit about your band?
The L.A. Maybe is a rock quintet out of Charlotte, North Carolina for fans of Guns N' Roses, Foo Fighters, and Chris Cornell. Drawing influence from both modern and classic rock, they put on an electrifying live show you won’t soon forget.
2. What is the story behind you band name?
Our band name came from a phrase I overheard somewhere. Two people were talking about how when you can’t commit to something you give the “L.A. maybe” - meaning LA folk are notorious for their flakiness. So we loved that and thought it was poignant in today’s society where people are only loyal until something better comes along.
3. What bands influenced you?
Our biggest influences include Guns N’ Roses, AC/DC, Chris Cornell, Foo Fighters, and countless others!
4. What is your outlook on music today good and bad?
I think for a while the national music community has been missing down-to-earth, gritty rock n’ roll and that’s what we’re trying to deliver. I love the fact that bands like Dirty Honey, Greta Van Fleet, and Bishop Gunn are seeing some success carrying the torch. It gives the rest of us hope!
5. What is your latest single and what is it about?
Our latest single, “She’s Reckless” is about being tempted by lust to get involved in something you know won’t be good for you in the long run. In the song, this happens to be a “reckless” woman who leaves a wake of metaphorical and physical destruction wherever she goes - but the overall message really applies to any kind of temptation.
6. Are we going to see a new EP in the near future?
We have our debut 4-song EP scheduled for release October 18, 2019. Our first two singles, “Peace of Mind” and “She’s Reckless” will be on it in addition to two brand new songs!
7. What drew you to be apart of music?
I got into guitar via the song “Welcome To The Jungle” by Guns N’ Roses. As the intro built I knew I was onto something but when the main riff hit I was sold. Music, specifically rock n’ roll, was what I was meant to do and that moment simply solidified it.
8. Is there anything else you'd like to add? Anything I forgot?
We’re basically a brand new band (we’ve been around less than a year) and we’re excited to see where this rock n’ roll journey takes us…and we hope you’ll join us along the way!

Liberosis
October 22nd 2019
First I would like to thank David Balmaceda for reaching out to me! He is also the bass guitarist for the band Liberosis. There is also two more members Jesse Outler - Guitar/lead vocals and Richard Coskey - Drums. The guys are based out of Kansas City, MO. The band was founded in 2017 and demo albums release in 2018 , "Vice" and "Versa" . A must listen mention is the song "Off the Rails" off the album "Versa"!! I really liked this one!!! Starts slow and throws into a whole different holy hell!! Exactly shows going off the rails!
Now as of today October 22, 2019, Liberosis released their first full length EP "Unhealthy". This album is more than just a theme of mental torment, but more so what leads to it. The songs on the album like "My body will not get the sleep it deserves" to "Liberosis" all has a brutal mind blowing feel. By looking at these guys, you wouldn't realize their serious heavy metal dudes. I honestly did not know what I was getting into till I heard their music. There is very much a feel of anger that their able to put out, and let loose in their collaboration. Jesse has a voice that can get out vocals but growls like a pro!! His voice fits well with the feeling they wanna show. With his partners on bass and drums all work well together. I am stoked to add these guys to my reviews! Congrats to your new release!! \m/ Written by Jennifer Cook/Phoenix Ravenmoon

Interview with Liberosis
Answered by David Balmaceda
1. Q: Please tell me more about the band?
A: Liberosis is a three piece heavy as fuck band from Kansas City, MO. Band members consist of: Jesse Outler on guitar and lead vocals, David Balmaceda on Bass guitar and backup vocals, and Richard Coskey on drums. Liberosis has been active since around August 2017. We have released two demos within the year of 2018, a four track titled Vice, We recorded it in our drummers basement. Our second demo titled, Versa, Five tracks recorded by Brian Waters at Bubba spins records and flop house. Liberosis can be and has been described in many different ways, some of our favorites are, "Sad Bastard Music," "Hardcore heavy sludge that makes you wanna fight in the applebees parking lot," and, "Melvins-Worship."
2. Q: Tell me about your newest album?
A: Our newest album titled, "Unhealthy," will be released on October 22nd on all major streaming platforms. When we first started writing Unhealthy our idea for the concept was to be primarily about mental health issues, and while in many ways, it still is about that, I would say in others it's also about the unhealthy side effects of just simply being alive. With songs like, 'Stress,' I feel isn't really about stress itself but how we handle it poorly as we grow. 'Overtime,' is a song about being over worked (obviously) and underpaid. Being at work so much you start to feel a sense of claustrophobia. Like you're trapped there, even when you finally are able to go home, you still dream about it because it's all your life is anymore. But hey, gotta get this bread! AmIrite? Aside from the lyrics and the concept, The music itself Is fast paced but steady, bouncy drum and bass rhythms. Loud Ear piercing Riffs that make you wanna start swinging. It's a motherfucking ride We can't wait for you motherfuckers to join us on!
3. Q: What brought you to Music Guru magazine?
A: Honestly, just randomly found you on Instagram haha. Went through your content and it seemed like you and your demographic might be into what we're about.
4. Q: What bands influenced you?
A: I sincerely hate this question haha. There was a time in our lives I think we'd be willing to sit here and name off bands we like, but really I think people stop being influenced heavily by bands like that after a certain age. I think now a days a lot of the inspiration comes from within, internal struggle, personal experiences, and our friends and family. I can without any doubt in my mind say my loved ones have given me more inspiration in my life than anything I've ever heard coming through headphones.
5. Q: Where can we find you live?
A: As of right now we got 4 shows booked. All in Kansas City. We're having a record release show for Unhealthy at the minibar on October 22nd. We'll have some awesome support from our good friends in Hexenkonig, Out of Orbit, and Consuming. Then we will be playing at sister Annes on November 2nd for 21 years of winter album release. Then we play with DFITD at Daveys uptown on Nov 7th and then back at minibar with DFITD again on Dec 13th.
6. Q: What made you go in the direction of music?
A: Yes
7. Q: Where can we look and find your music online?
A: You can find Liberosis literally ANYWHERE!!! We're on youtube, we're on spotify, applemusic, amazon music, we have music on our Instagram page, facebook page, and we have a bandcamp. We are not hard to find, at all.
8. Q: Where did you get the name for your band?
A: Honestly, not entirely sure where it came from. I think Jesse came up with it. All I know is that it definitely fits to our sound. You'll understand exactly what I mean when you hear us.
9. Q: What is your favorite song off the album and what is it about?
A: Stress and overtime are a couple of my favorites, and if you've gotten this far in my terrible interview, then you've read when I talked about them earlier, Stress also has one of the catchiest riffs I've ever heard in my life. The instrumental progression on overtime is really cool too. But my personal favorite is probably the last track, which is self titled, "Liberosis." Everything about it is great. The intro is an instant hook, it grooves and slaps at the same time. The lyrics and concept is super relatable for anyone.
10. Q: Is there anything you'd like to add?
A: Yeah, I get asked what the word, 'Liberosis' means often so, I'm just gonna leave this here.
liberosis
n. the desire to care less about things—to loosen your grip on your life, to stop glancing behind you every few steps, afraid that someone will snatch it from you before you reach the end zone—rather to hold your life loosely and playfully, like a volleyball, keeping it in the air, with only quick fleeting interventions, bouncing freely in the hands of trusted friends, always in play.

October 24th 2019
Yet another review for the month of October is Strength Betrayed. They had a new album release almost a month ago on September 28th 2019 entitled "War-Torn". I thought long and hard what direction I wanted to go with this article! Did I want to go with my basic review or go deeper! I decided on deeper and well deserved on all counts!
I myself is an open Pagan and Norse Heathen. You could say you would never expect me to review a Christian band which Strength Betrayed is. Why bring up either religion? In my faith's beliefs knowledge is power, and ignorance spreads hate. No one is pushing religion here, but showing faith in what we believe. A better understanding of all! As Amon Amarth shows their faith in Viking and Norse Mythology. But yet they don't expect you to turn Viking as Strength Betrayed doesn't expects you to convert Christian. I play over and over in my mind the TV show Vikings, Ragnar befriends a christian monk Athelstan. They learned and understood their religions together. We all have a common ground the love of music! With that we can learn to tolerate and respect one another. If I touch a few or looked down upon for feeling this way, at least I made thought that maybe there's a better way! Makes me sad to think any of us feels the need to disrespect or belittle another's religion. I know that feeling to well. I found Odin, Thor, Frigg and Freya as my gods and goddesses that helped me through great good and bad of my life. I have faith with a full heart and soul! If Strength Betrayed feels the same for Jesus, Mary and God! More power to their faith and play on!! Skål and Amen!
With that let's get to the album review and band interview!! From the start I really liked "War-Torn", it has a brutal realistic message behind it. With brutal riffs to back it and also has a catchy sound. "My Fight" has a mix of amazing guitar and drum combos. The message I hear behind it is a mental battle we all have gone through. You can't walk in another shoes but never forget you do make an impact good or bad in someone's life. But you can't live their life or fight!! I find metal fans of many genres can love their sound! Not over powering but yet can have a very heavy savage feeling! "Sour" has killer bass from the beginning with quick guitar and drums to follow! You can hear the angry in the vocals of a torment in one's soul! As he turns his sound from a normal singing to anger growls as he changes his emotions. "Audio Warfare" has a classic rock of the 80's at the beginning, but changes through the eras of metal. What I get from this song is a fight vocally for what to believe. As we have all taken part in debates, but still have faith in our path. There is nine songs on the album that is more about being war torn within yourself and the world around you. At least what I got from listening myself! I would give this all a listen and see what you hear!

Interview with Strength Betrayed
1. Tell about your band Strength Betrayed?
Thomas Smith: Well, Strength Betrayed is a faith-based band from Dunn NC. We have been together since 2014/2015 and have been honing in our sound ever since. We like just getting down and dirty with a simple heavy slamming sound.
2. When will your latest album be released?
Thomas Smith: The album is set to release September 28th! You can go to any digital store and pre-order our upcoming album “War-Torn”! In the meantime, stream our singles or head over to YouTube and watch our recent music videos for “War-Torn” and “Sour”! Its been such a labor of love that and we hope the fans can hear and feel that!
3. What is the meaning of your band name?
Thomas Smith: Honestly, we decided on the name “Strength Betrayed” pretty fast. It was actually a band name of a friend of ours and one that our drummer Taylor and our lead guitarist Jacob were apart of. The band never played a show when they broke up but I remembered loving that band name. So, when we put this band together, I called my friend up and was like “hey man can we use Strength Betrayed?”. And he was cool with it! We still keep the same meaning of the original name. The name "Strength Betrayed" comes from the biblical story of Sampson and serves as a reminder to the band that the strengths that are given to us can betray us if we allow our strengths to go to our heads, consume our lives, destroy the lives of others through inflated egos and self-importance.
4. Being a Christian Rock band, do you get more followers or flack, and what is the meaning behind it? Does it help bring knowledge to your beliefs as it does for Amon Amarth with Norse Viking Beliefs?
Thomas Smith: Truly, we believe what we believe, and we believe that our beliefs bring a deeper hope to people than any other belief system that I have observed. We are not a band that will shove God and Jesus down anybody’s throats, but we also believe and have seen first hand that just mentioning what we believe will prompt someone to honestly approach us and open up about their personal struggles or hell on earth they are experiencing. On that same hand, we don’t go after other people because of their personal beliefs, we truly respect those. We live in a world that views Norse Viking Beliefs as awesome (which to a point it is lol) but will not tolerate Christian beliefs. That usually comes in the form of hecklers, the best part is we just play our music and make them fans anyways!
5. Who influenced you musically as far as bands?
Thomas Smith: Man, that is tough because there are so many. Definitely Breaking Benjamin, Korn, Red, Tool and the 80’s DUMP Jacob puts on his leads lol Disturbed, A Day to Remember, Chevelle, Killswitch engaged, Metallica, Alter Bridge, and so SO many more.
6. What is the story behind the song “Sour”?
Thomas Smith: Man thank you for asking this question. This is the first time I’ve been asked about “Sour”. So, "Sour" came out of a very dark period of my life. I was dealing with a lot of hopelessness, lack of meaning and purpose, working a dead-end job and just having no direction. Depression was real and seem to rear its ugly head on and off throughout life. The song “Sour” is an artistic contradiction. The sound of “Sour” is very upbeat and heavy, with a dance vibe that we borrowed from bands like Static-X and Rob Zombie. But the lyrics are very dark, and really have no resolve. The chorus is the contradicting thoughts that people going through a depressive hell experience or at least its what I’ve experienced. The song basically was an expression or a prayer of just trying not becoming a horrible human because of my emotional state. The song was based on a Bible verse Hebrews 12:15 that basically says don’t become bitter when life gets hard. So, I used “Sour” and coined the phrase in the chorus “under the pressure of going sour”. It’s a very complex song that is a fan favorite for absolute sure!
7. If you were told you sounded like another band, would you take it as a compliment or insult wanting to be original?
Thomas Smith: It’s a mix of both but not pushed to the point of an insult. I def understand that most people compare us to other bands as a form of compliment so it’s nothing I take personally. But the times I’ve heard people say they can’t pinpoint our sound but they love it, that’s the greatest compliment we could ever receive. It's like we know we pull from our influences, but we want to be us and not be a copycat by any means for real.
8. Where can we find you live?
Thomas Smith: Right now we are local to North Carolina and the surrounding states….but that doesn’t mean we can't hit the road if you guys buy enough records or stream us real REAL good! lol
9. Anything else you would like to add that I haven’t?
Thomas Smith: So, I’ve said this the past couple of interviews and it's just going to be a staple for how I answer the last question, I guess. Go stream our Singles, Pre-Order/Pre-Save our album "War-Torn". Please support your local bands. Like you, they have dreams and goals and you have no idea how happy it makes them too have passionate fans show up to their shows. Even if only 5 people show up if those 5 people go HAM it makes the night!

Interview with Disciples of Verity (Answered by drummer Corey Pierce)
1. Tell me about your band?
We are an abstract painting in an era of coloring book mimicry. Hahaha. . . We are a group of guys who met through friends and love to play. Very meat and potatoes. But the meat I'd wagyu and the potatoes are fingerling red. (Yes I equate many things to food)Haha
2. What is your latest single "Worthy" all about?
It's about internal struggle and questioning yourself. Dealing with the judgments we lay on ourselves which in many ways are clearly the most damaging. Plus it's about Jeff Loomis shredding hard as fuck!
3. What was it like to work with Jeff Loomis?
Jeff is one of the most humble and amazing guitarists and people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. Cool dude
4. Tell us more about your future album release?
Well, it's about just coming at music and life with a broader, clearer overall view. Musically it's about being able to engage so much of what we like about different styles and favorite bands and blending them in a different way forged from the chemistry of the guys in this band.
5. Who else can we expect for special guests on the album?
Well, we have Phil Demmel (VIO-LENCE/MACHINEHEAD) on the next single "Lying to Myself". Phil is so fricken amazing! Plus he has awesome solo faces and makes the gitfiddle singgggggg.. . We also have Morgan Rose (Sevendust)on the album, Joe Gareri and also another dear friend Tara Mcleod( Kittie, Nice Horse) always a great whiskey drinkin friend plus she rips on guitar and yes she is also super gorgeous.
She is an advanced lifeform.hahaha
6. Who has influenced you musically?
The list is honestly TOO long.hahaha. . . I can say on all of our accounts we love all the heavy, fusion, power, slam, funk, East coast hardcore, metal and yada yada yada. . PANTERA IS THE BEST METAL BAND OF ALLLLL TIme. . . Ever
7. The music world is forever changing! Through your time what changes have you've seen good or bad?
Holy shit! If I truly answer that question no one will talk to me ever again. But I do think that there are ALOT of really talented young musicians. I think it's amazing to see so many young guys coming out with some legit metal and some really great energy. I do think there are too many well off people who dabble in the music BUSINESS for a minute and think they can just money their way to the top, instead of aking the effort establishing real relationships and friends which is what you need to be successful in this industry.
That's all I will testify at this time.ha
8. What moment in your life did you decide music is where you wanna be?
For me, it's a constant battle. I LOVE music but I chose an instrument that causes me immense frustration and also the joy... SO THE BATTLE CONTINUES. . . . . . . haha
9. Is there anything you'd like to say to your fans?
Well, the most IMPORTANT thing is we REALLY appreciate so many coming forward and supporting us and we look forward to hangin out with you when we bring DOV to you LIVE!
10. Anything you'd like to add that I did not in your interview?
Sure. Favorite color is black, I love brunettes, BBQ, BEER, WHISKEY, AND DRUMS are why I live(not necessarily in that order). Ladies I also make tremendous pancakes.

Deep as Ocean
Band Members
Matt - Vocals
Alberto - Guitar
Manuel - Guitar
Matteo - Bass
Riccardo - Drums
November 4th 2019
Let's kick off November with Deep as Ocean! This band started following Music Guru on Instagram! I had to check them out, and man I'm ecstatic that I did! They were founded by two brothers Alberto on guitar and Riccardo on drums in Milan,Italy. In 2016 Matt the lead singer, Matteo on bass, and Manuel another guitarist followed after to firm the band we know now.
To jump to this year Deep as Ocean first release in 2019 was “Hourglass” which features Novelists FR's singer Matt Gelsomino. With a mix of forceful vocals and electronic hardcore riffs anyone can get into this song. Hard bass that could thunder through your speakers! There after came “Oblivion” in early summer release, the first song to catch my attention to listen to more. I must say when I first heard them I can say I heard an Italian version of The Browning. Which in my book is a compliment! I love the combo of metal hardcore and electronic sounds! As they did well on the same account with their song “The Sinking Ship” was the first single and video of the 2019 upcoming album. Which was just before this year and gave you a good taste of what to come this year ending. Their latest single and video release on October 25th 2019 is “Knives and Flames”. The band’s first album, “Crossing Parallels”, will be released on December 13, 2019. You better give them a listen! I got hooked after first listened, and grabbed them for an interview instantly! Which is included with this article so they can also speak for themselves!

Interview with Deep as Ocean
1.Tell me more about your band?
We are an Italian band from Milan, performing since 2016. The band was founded by two brothers,
Alberto (guitar) and Riccardo (drums) and soon after Matt (voice), Matteo (bass) and Manuel
(guitar) joined it. In our early career, we released two singles “Black Sheep” and “Before They
Win” in 2016, followed by a five-tracks EP “Lost Hopes, Broken Mirrors” in 2017. Our first album
“Crossing Parallels” will be out next December 13. We published 6 music videos on YouTube as
well, and we recently have been added to two important Spotify editorial playlists, “New Blood”
and “New Core”.
2. Tell me more about your new album?
We are very proud of our upcoming album “Crossing Parallels”. This will be 100% Deep As
Ocean’s album; we spent an entire year on writings and recordings, trying to make it its best.
The sound ranges from heavy and modern tones to melodic ones. This album has two souls: a dark
and heavy one, which crushes against the brighter and melodic one. This conception is encapsulated
in the title and image cover of our upcoming album: two different worlds, naturally separated, but
melting into each other.
3. How would you describe your music genre!?
We like to consider DAO’s music in alignment to Modern Metal, and Melodic Metal Core.
4. What bands influenced you?
The list would be too long to describe! For sure, we have been influenced by a lot of music waves,
from 80’s hard n’ heavy to 00’s Nu-Metal period, as well as by recent Metal Core sounds.
5. If there was any band you could tour with who would it be?
Maybe Architects or The Ghost Inside
6. What is the song “Knives and Flames" all about?
This song is about being stabbed in the back, and being betrayed by the bad things in life.
7. How easy or hard is it to translate to English for music?
We have grown up listening to English and American music. Our fav bands are from these
countries, so it is not so difficult writing in English.
8. Where can you find you live?
Starting December, we are scheduling some dates in Italy, but hopefully 2020 could take us to
Europe too.
9. Is there anything else you'd like to add I haven't in the interview?
Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity of enjoying this interview. Remember to go
checking us out on YouTube and to listen to us on Spotify. Save the date, December 13: our brand
new album is coming!
thank you so much

Waves in Autumn

April 25th 2020
My newest monthly review is Waves in Autumn, they had come to me to do an article for their newest endeavor. Their new release song "Yellowstone" just about a month ago on March 20th 2020. They started originally back in 2017 at the birthplace of Bergamo, Italy. Next two years there after they released the single "Danforth" in 2019. Back to now "Yellowstone" is a giant force of nature. I will let the band themselves tell us more in their interview with me! Enjoy! \m/

Interview with Waves in Autumn
1. Tell me more about the band?
Our band is the result of years of friendship between people with same musical tastes. David (guitar) and Maicol (drums) are brother, Ronny (bass) knows them since he was 3 years old and basically they grew up together.
Airon (guitar) joined their first band around 2014 since they were searching another guitarist and some common friends made them meet.
After some years they decided to start this new project and Airon, who introduced me (Davide - Vocals) to this type of music when I was a kid, knew me for a long time so he came up with the idea of giving me the chance to join them in 2017 and so, here we are.
2. Where did the name Waves of Autumn come from?
It releates with personal experiences of my bandmates before the birth of this project.
3. Your single "Yellowstone" what really inspired you for this song?
The idea of the song came up when I was watching a documentary about Yellowstone National Park (USA) where they explained the fact that it's an uncontaminated place where bisons had chance to recover after being on a high risk of extintion.
We choose wilderness as aesthetic for our music and especially bisons as our symbol since they fit very well with our idea of artists and musicians. Anyone has an istinctive side within himself, anyone has a way to unleash it, our way is playing music.
4. What bands influenced you through time?
We took inspiration by a lot of bands over the years, the ones that mostly gather our tastes are definitely August Burns Red, While She Sleeps, The Ghost Inside and Stick To Your Guns. Lately our attention has been caught really much by bands like Stray From The Path, Beartooth and Crystal Lake.
5. What is your first memory of wanting to be apart of music?
Personally the first time for me was back in the days, when I was like 10 years old and I used to jam daily Linkin Park's songs on my MP3 player. During summer I decided to put up a band with two schoolmates who could play drums and guitar and I realised how much satisfying is playing with others.
6. What is it like being apart of the music industry in Italy?
By our experience and by matching other underground bands thoughts, it's not simple to do something with music here nowadays. As many have noticed the market is flooded due to the ease for anyone to produce, upload and sponsor his music, while the masses are eager of contents. In addtion, Italy is a country where the interest for this type of music is under avarage and in fact to gain a good amount of people attention can be hard. But there are few realities rising in the past years proving that something can be done, with patience and dedication.
7. When should we expect your newest album?
Actually we can't say too much, but expect new music this year.
8. What is favorite song to play so far?
Yellowstone is by far our favourite along with a secret one...
9. What inspires you as a musician as whole?
As I said before, we find a lot of images and metaphores for our songs in natural and wild elements, like savage animals, places, atmosphere but also by reading books like our first single, Danforth, which is the name of a character from H.P. Lovecraft's book "At the Mountains of Madness". Sometimes someone just came up with a cool story or a cool sentence/word and we decide to develope it in a new concept.
10. If there was anything I forgot in the interview, what would you like to add?
Maybe something about next live shows, but unfortunately due to the currrent situation it's hard to know if we could return on stage soon this year. We will try to make it possible the soon as possible, meanwhile stay safe and strong.

Ashes to Omens
May 19th 2020
I'd like to announce the latest of reviews! Ashed to Omens is a band from Athens, GA and founded in 2017. Their first release with "The Screws" and soon after released their first self titled album in 2018. Going full throttle started anew in late 2018 with new single "The Conflict Within". You couldn't stop them now in their few years about to release their second album and yet another single release with "Let the Devil Loose". I must say each single is pretty amazing to have it's own feel, and gives you something new each time. The Screws and The Conflict Within may both start out slow, but both sound completely different throughout. Now Let the Devil Loose is all around starts out with a classic hard rock feel, and gives you a feeling of being in a party that rocks. Now as we are in 2020, Ashes to Omens gives you a new swing to a classic! Pink Floyd released in 1979 "Another Brick in The Wall" and yet again with Korn in 2004. But I must say Ashes to Omens yet again gave this song another original feel, and the song still rings true in this new alternative world. "The band has always been Pink Floyd fans and especially so of " Another Brick in the Wall" . We felt like the song still resonates on so many levels in today's culture that we wanted to bring a fresh re-imagining of the song. Something that reflects the current global and political crisis that today's youth can relate to."- James Branton Ashes to Omen.

Interview with Ashes to Omens
1. Tell me more about your band?
James Branton: We are a 5 piece rock band from Athens, GA. (Go Dawgs!) We are a bunch of dudes that want to get back to the roots of hard rock and bring it to the masses again. We started in 2017. Most of us didn't know each other until we got together to play music. Ultimately, we all have big hearts and big dreams, we have something to say and we want the world to hear it.
2. Would you say your music is more like classic metal, or how would you describe it?
We think so. Our fans have told us that our sound reminds them of early Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin. But also, something that is modern enough to relate to the current generation. - James
I’d say it’s a blend of classic and post-grunge hard rock. Arena rock -David
Yeah, I agree, I’d say it’s more hard rock, we do cover classic metal stuff but our sound would be more modern. - Nathan
3. What can we expect from your band in the future?
I think there's a lot that people can expect from us. We're currently working on our first full-length album. We've released 3 singles off it so far and the reception has been fantastic so far, so we'd like to think that we have a way to keep our fans guessing. - James
Lots of good music, like I said we have something to say, and we want everyone to hear it -Nathan
4. Your newest single "Another Brick in the Wall" much more different than Pink Floyd's and even Korn's version. What drive you to do a cover for this song?
Well, this song wasn't one that we went into lightly. All of us are huge Pink Floyd fans. One afternoon David and I were on the phone discussing the direction of the new album and the global political climate, etc and the original Another Brick in the Wall came on the radio. It was playing in the background and we both kind of fell silent and just listened to it. It was like hearing a song for the first time again, almost resonating on an entirely new level. We both were quiet and when the song went off both us just had this epiphany about how we'd like to re-work it. We took it to the rest of the guys and we ended up working on it about 4 months before we ever actually played it live. But once we did, our fans fell in love with it and the rest is history. - James
Definitely. We wanted to take something old and make it fresh. But we didn't want to do a carbon copy of the song. We wanted to make it our own. -Chris
5. Till your able to go play live again. How do you fill the void till then?
Right now, each of us has committed to just writing. We're not really into the "quarantine music" thing that's going around. But it is an opportunity for us all to get in our own head space and become better writers and better musicians. So we're taking this time to learn. -James
Practice, practice, practice! The thing about playing the guitar (or any instrument really) is the more you learn the more you realize you don’t know. I try to get out of my comfort zone every time I pick it up and learn something new. –David
6. What bands influenced you?
Oh man, that's a loaded question. We're influenced by so many bands. Slipknot, Breaking Benjamin, 30 Seconds to Mars, Shinedown, Led Zeppelin. I think it would be an understatement for us to say we're influenced by 30 different bands. -James
Breaking Benjamin, Godsmack, Slipknot, Disturbed, Alter Bridge, Motley Crue, just to name a few -Chris
Slipknot, Chevelle, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, Black Label Society - Steven
Avenged Sevenfold has to be my biggest influence stylistically, but bands that inspired me to play music span from genres. From Metallica to Green Day, from Foo Fighters to Trivium... it’s a lot - Nathan
There’s a lot for sure but Pantera, Metallica, Manowar, Alice In Chains, Black Label Society, Life of Agony, Hatebreed, Megadeth, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster and Dream Theatre to name a few. I’m also a huge fan of musicals and I hope to write a rock opera someday. – David
7. What is your favorite song to play?
Let the Devil Loose or WarCry - James
I think we all unanimously agree WarCry is probably our favorite right now. -Chris
8. Which song holds the deepest meaning for you?
For me, it's The Screws off of our first album. I wrote that song 3 years ago during my battle with cancer. You know my entire life I have battled depression and anxiety. It has taken over my life at times. And 3 years ago it had gotten me mentally into an incredibly horrible mental place. Then, I got the news that I had cancer and instead of letting it dominate me, I used it as a tool. I sat down and wrote The Screws. I think of all of our songs, it's probably our most prolific song with our fans. They sing it with us because they know what it means to us. -James
War Cry, hands down, I love the progressive nature of the song, I love doing the backing screams and that’s one of the few songs that I get lead lines on. -Nathan
9. At this time what would you like to say to your fans?
Times are tough right now. We all miss you guys very, very much and we can't wait to get back out there with you. We love you. - James
Thanks for the support, hang In there, we’re coming back harder than ever when this all ends. –Nathan
10. Anything you'd like me to add that I have not?
Check out our newest single "Another Brick in the Wall" on all streaming platforms! Out now!

Seasons
May 20th 2020
Seasons is a awesome Metalcore band out of Richmond, VA and formed in 2017. All five member has a strong Stage presence and know how to rock heavy! In 2019 they released their first 5 full length song album called "Inner Ruin", and every one of the songs are brutally massive to the core. Their latest 2020 single "Violence is a Virtue" keeps that theme! “This song is about how I feel about myself and the world around me to a degree. The overwhelming nature of the world and repetition of the day in, day out routine is stifling and limits us as creators.” - Kent Stewart (Vocals) The most impressive I've read about Seasons is the way they do their live shows. Seasons give their all at every show, and the kind of band you can hang with after their set. I love that about some bands that is willing to be one with their fans, and show you their devotion to the music. You can see and hear this in their newest song for sure, and feel the pain and anger in his growls. The whole band has prime talent! It isn't easy to dish out these guitar riffs and heavy drum beats! This band does it with ease! Please give them a proper listen!!

Interview with Seasons:
1. Tell me more about Seasons RVA?
Mark Spivey: Seasons is a five piece metalcore band from Richmond, VA. We all have extensive musical backgrounds and work very well together to create music that excels in all areas. We have a large community presence in Richmond, and work closely with those involved in the music scene and otherwise. During our music video shoot for “Violence is a Virtue,” we were able to record at Another Round Bar and Grill in Henrico, VA, and co-hosted a food drive with Feed More where we donated over 450 cans of food to the community.
Matt Poe: I wish we weren’t referred to as Seasons RVA, but Facebook made us add the “RVA” part in order to create the account. It’s helpful for fans to be able to easily find us on social media, but it’s infuriating because we are Seasons, and just from Richmond, VA. That doesn’t define us.
2. Please tell me more about your new single "Violence is a Virtue"? Omg I love it! Brutal guys!
Mark Spivey: “Violence is a Virtue” is the first song I wrote with Seasons from scratch. I had a lot of good ideas in my head about tapping and sweeping, similar to Slash from Guns n Roses on “Sweet Child of Mine.” I just started playing through those ideas at practice and everyone vibed it. It’s definitely our heaviest song while still staying melodic, and is the only one, so far, featuring a 7 string.
Matt Poe: This song is truly a credo, something to live by. It is a self-defining song that I think will continue to be a banger for Seasons through our career.
3. When should we expect to hear more?
Matt Poe: The Coronavirus has really put a halt to our shows and our ability to go out in the community and play for our fans. We have been able to send videos to each other to work on new material, and even got into the studio to record some new songs. Expect a lyric video for our next one soon.
4. I love when a band has the ability to sing and growl! What vocals do you like to do best?
Mark Spivey: Kent is our vocalist and does most of the singing and growling. I back him up for both at different points and I really don’t have a preference. I feel like the singing helps me express emotion whereas the growling lets me express the anger or rage within the lyrics at certain points.
5. Speaking of growling! How about a how-to growl? Tell us how so we can try it ourselves!
Mark Spivey: It really comes from your gut and requires a lot of push. Think about when you get mad at someone and start screaming, now just change your mouth shape and it helps change the pitch.
6. Do you feel your music lets you get your feelings out or your rage out?
Matt Poe: Both. Equally.
7. What bands influenced your music?
Matt Poe: I was a big nu-metal kid, around early 2004-2006, everything from Sevendust and Flaw to It Dies Today influenced me in this band. Today I would say Wage War, I Prevail, and A Day to Remember really influence our music.
8. What song means the most to you? Story behind it if you'd like?
Mark Spivey: For me, “Violence is a Virtue” means the most to me. I can really feel the heart behind the lyrics, and again, it was the first one that I had a large part in the music writing.
Matt Poe: “Call Me Karma” - it’s an anthem for the outcast and I have always felt like one of the outcasts.
9. Through your life who supported you the most music-wise?
Matt Poe: My dad and my wife Heather.
Mark Spivey: Most of my friends had my back and said I would make it, which was encouraging, but the biggest support came from my best friend Josh and my wife Megan.
10. Anything you'd like to add that I did not?
Matt Poe: Fun fact - Seasons did not officially begin until December of 2017, however Seasons’ birthday is May 4th, 2017, so we are coming up on our third birthday! If you like what you hear, please make sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and our members-only exclusive Patreon for even more behind the scenes content. One in The Chamber
ONE IN THE CHAMBER Is:
Mike Biase - Lead Vocals & Guitar
Cecil Eugene - Lead Guitar
Christian Dotto - Bass
Gerrod Harris -Drums
May 30th 2020
One in The Chamber, formed in 2015 from Toronto been working hard for the last 5 years. First full EP album in 2018 titled "I've got something To Say" with their song "Itchin' Back". Their album national played on radio and Spotify 100,000 stream plays. Their beat is a classic new wave with a down home rock bar feel! It does get pretty catchy to listen to and more so with their latest single for 2020 "Blow". A song I could get down with at a local show in a good bar with "Itchin Back" included! Brings back fond memories of good rock music from the 80's with their own appeal! I can't wait to hear from this down right dirty and gitty rock music! Sometimes you just need to listen to something just like One in the Chamber!

Interview with One in the Chamber
1. Tell me more about your band?
Gerrod Harris: One In The Chamber is a dirty rock & roll band straight from the heart of
Toronto. We just dropped out brand new single, “Blow”, and in the past have released our debut
studio EP, I’ve Got Something To Say…
2. How would you describe your music type or genre?
Gerrod Harris: Writing between the four of us has become a very organic process. We’re a hard
rock band with deep roots in ‘70s and ‘80s classic rock along with the alternative and hard rock
of the ‘90s.
3. Your latest single release, (pretty dam good by the way) "Blow" what is it all about?
Gerrod Harris: We knew we needed to follow up 2018’s I’ve Got Something To Say… with a big
track. It had to hit hard, and it had to be bigger than anything else on the last record. This is a
track that we are insanely proud of and is one of my absolute favorites to play live!
4.Is there any plans for a full length album?
Gerrod Harris: Currently, it’s just our single and music video for “Blow”. We’re looking forward
to what is to come and are hoping to get new music out there as soon as we can.
5. Where did you get the name One in the Chamber?
Gerrod Harris: One In The Chamber is about recognizing you only truly get one chance, and
you’re going to make sure you make it count.
6. We are all awaiting to be able to see bands live again! What is your favorite part of playing
live and what do you miss the most?
Gerrod Harris: I say it all the time, but as a musician, it is fantastic to write, record, and perform
with such an unbelievably talented group of musicians. There is nothing like the energy and
chemistry we have when the four of us get on stage.
7. What bands influenced your music?
Gerrod Harris: We each come from such different musical backgrounds. Myself, I’m a big
classic rock fan - The Stones, Aerosmith, Zeppelin, - but I also love ‘90s alternative rock and
grunge like The Chili Peppers, Soundgarden, and Alice In Chains. Mike primarily comes from a
classic rock background, Christian is a big metalhead, and I can’t even begin to get into all the
expected and unexpected things that Cecil likes, and doesn’t like.
8. What is it like making music in Canada?
Gerrod Harris: The Canadian music scene is alive and well! We’re lucky to be a part of the
Toronto music scene. There are so many fantastic bands and such diversity among the scene.
9. Outside of music, what is your favorite pastime?
Gerrod Harris: Reading, writing about music, the gym, beer, video games, and cooking. Between
the four of us, we do it all.
10. If there's anything I forgot to add in the interview, please leave it here?
Gerrod Harris: “Blow” is available on all streaming sites and watch the new music video on our
Facebook page and our YouTube channel!

Vain Louie
May 30th 2020
Second band on this month's date is Vain Louie out of the Netherlands. They came to me to help spread the word for them! I was more than happy to! Their new release for 2020 "Decomposed" is on their heavier side with some softer vocals. Every one of their songs I listened from them has a very different sound. Not kidding at all when I say this!! "Danger of Death" a 2019 release, goes from brutal down right metal to lighter. But has a completely different sound than "Decomposed". Another 2019 release is "Black Crow" has more a Slipknot feel with 90's music sound. Then their first release in 2018 "Turning Point" started it all and for sure it was for them. Just to say a few words with much love! Thank you guys so much for coming to me!! Let's get to the interview and hear about the music first hand from the band!!
Written by Jennifer Cook/Phoenix Ravenmoon

Interview with Vain Louie
1. Tell me about your band Vain Louie?
We are VAIN LOUIE, melodic hardcore from the Netherlands. We’re not just a band but best friends as well, since we’ve all known each other since we were toddlers. We’re all from the same small village near Nijmegen, called Ewijk and we’ve grown up together. We formed a bond over years, and the product of that bond is called VAIN LOUIE.
2. How did you get the name for the band?
We chose the name VAIN LOUIE because the first song we wrote was about a man called “Vain Louie”. The lyrics were utter nonsense, which we thought would represent us the best at that time. Since then we have stepped away from the nonsense and our lyrics are a lot more focused on what is going on in our lives and our ways of thinking. But for us the most important thing about this band is the bond that formed Vain Louie, so we kept the name and never even discussed changing the name… We’ve grown to love it.
3. Your newest song "Decomposed" tell me more about it and what is it all about?
Decmposed is a song about the struggles we all might go through about who we think we are to the outside world and who we are from the inside. Sometimes we might take that too far which is unfortunate because then the essence of our personality would be lost for a fake one and “would make you rot away on the inside”. We think the feeling of the song is quite “happy”, which changes near the end. When we’re young our appearances are centered around beauty, which is fine. But what happens when we grow older, and the beauty is supposed to make way for wisdom and experience? You can’t rely on your looks your whole life.
4. Can you tell me more about a new release full length album, and when the release date is?
We’re currently writing a lot of new music, but nothing is set in stone to when we release a full length. There’s a lot of options for us, and we’re kind of figuring out our next step. Especially in the strange world we live in today.
5. What bands influenced you through time?
There might be hundreds or more bands we’re influenced by. We all started by listening to bands like Metallica, Nirvana and System of a Down. Those were part of our musical upbringing, for the most of us our parents introduced us to them. Those bands made us want to make music ourselves someday. Nowadays we mostly listen to bands like “Stick To Your Guns”, “Bury Tomorrow”, “Counterparts” and many, many more.
6. What do you feel at this time is the hardest part of the music industry right now?
The competition. It’s definitely hard to get your name and music out there, but we think the quality of the recordings have got to be top notch to get noticed. We recorded our songs at “Cornerstone Audio”, with producer Daan Nieboer. The very high quality of the recordings he provides is definitely the standard we want (and could wish for). But the fact remains there are so many good bands out there, it’s going to be hard to really get noticed. But we hope a lot of hard work and dedication will have done the trick at the end of the road.
7. There is many bands throughout the world, and one question I ask is what is it like to create and have a band in your country?
We live in a small country and we believe metal is not very alive out here. There’s a lot of people that dislike our kind of music, and some won’t even try to understand it because it’s too far away from what they’re used to listen to. And to be fair there’s a lot of disadvantages to that, but it’s got something very cool as well. In our region friendships between bands begin to develop and we’re beginning to form a community amongst ourselves. It’s sort of an “it’s us against them all” feeling that is lighting a spark between us that we hope will start a fire very soon. We’re all very excited to play shows together.
8. What is your favorite way to play rage or the softer side?
We don’t particularly like either one, but we do very much enjoy finding the balance between rage and tranquility. We always try to alternate between the two, because we feel that’s the right path for us.
9. How did you find Music Guru Magazine and why did you pick us to do your article?
Our friend and booker, Sebastiaan Valks, advised us to approach Music Guru Magazine.
10. If there is anything I did not include in the interview, please say it here?
Thank you guys for the opportunity to get our name out there. We enjoyed it and hope a lot of people will read the article. Stay safe and indoors, we hope to talk to you very soon with new music!

Laughing Stock

Interview with Laughing Stock
1. Tell me more about your band Laughing Stock?
Laughing Stock is a band made up by three friends who have played in bands together since 1986, when we were just kids. We have had bands in many kinds of music, but in 2017 we decided to meld it all together in a project called ‘Laughing Stock’. It is only after we got a record deal from Apollon records that we have become a real band and not only a studio project. Håvard Enge plays keyboards, flute and banjo, Jan Erik K Nilsen plays guitar and does all the band’s artwork and Jan Mikael Sørensen (me) plays guitar, bass, drums and keyboards. I also do the mixing and has the studio where the music is recorded. All three members sing and write songs.
2. Where did you get the name for the band?
We have a lot of music in common, but one band we have always loved is Talk Talk. Their last album was the masterpiece ‘Laughing Stock’, and therefore we chose that name. Since we never had any success with previous bands we thought the term Laughing Stock was quite appropriate. We have always played music that seemed a bit weird at the time, so many people have actually made fun of our music through the years.
3. What is the story behind your single "Vultures, Bats and Reptiles "?
Vultures, bats and reptiles was originally a song that Håvard wrote for a band called Cerumen that he and I had in the eighties. It was written in 1988. In 2011 we got that band together to record a song for our 25th anniversary. I rearranged the chords, but we kept the lyrics as it were. Then the song evolved into a 13 minute epic. In 2017 we rerecorded it as Laughing Stock, with some small changes, and in 2020 we recorded the version that has now been released as a single.
4. Where are you from and what is it like starting music there?
We are from a medium sized Norwegian town called Tønsberg. It had a very good rock scene in the nineties, and in those days Jan Erik and I had a band called Spacewagon. We played a strange hybrid of indie rock mixed up with folk elements inspired by Grant Lee Buffalo and hard rock inspired by Smashing Pumpkins and Alice in Chains. We even had a Bjõrk cover on our setlist! Jan Erik made all the songs, and he came along with a bunch of new songs on every rehearsal. Tønsberg was a great place to be in for a band in those days. There were small, crappy studios and dirty rehearsalrooms literally everywhere. That is not the case anymore, but it seems to be on the rise again.
5. What should we expect next? Any new music or album?
We have an album coming out in the summer. It is called ‘The Island’. We were very pleased with our last album ‘Sunrise’, but I can say that ‘The Island’ is even more diverse. It is about the chaos of the world we live in, and The Island is a metaphor for the place you hide to get away from it all. The songs on the album tells a story about a person who struggles with with his past and present life and mourns his faded dreams. For us The Island is about making music to temporarily get away from ordinary life as an adult. That is our Island.
6. What bands influenced your music?
Too many to mention. We have all gone through phases, but we grew up in the eighties, and a lot of that music has been in our hearts ever since. Talk Talk, XTC and Tears for Fears are some of them. We also grew up on the classic stuff like The Beatles and Pink Floyd, and we stride to make all our albums as diverse as The Beatles’ ‘Revolver’ and as grand in scope as Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’. Impossible, of course, but you have to aim as high as possible! Of more recent music I will say that Steven Wilson has been very important to us. I hadn’t heard of him until Porcupine Tree released ‘Fear of a blank planet’. That album really made an impact. He recorded and produced the music by himself (in the beginning), had full control over the creative process and at the same time he had the ‘one of us’ looks and behavior. The whole package made me want to try the same. So then I contacted Håvard and Jan Erik, the persons that was the most important to me in my history of music, and they were all into it.
7. What is the hardest cord that you accomplished?
If you mean what has been difficulties for our band, it has been transforming the songs onto a live setting. We are only three band members, and our songs are densely arranged and full of twists and turns. At first we made some more acoustic versions of some of the songs, but now we have added a live drummer, and Jan Erik plays bass on some tracks. It works very well.
8. What type of music genre would you say your band is?
That is impossible to say. We always have the melody and the core song as the most important element, but the arrangement can vary from track to track, and most often within each track. That is why we are pleased to be called a progressive rock band or an art rock band. We want to use as much of the spectrum of music as we can, but it has to serve the song and not being merly a gimmick. Music has to be honest, and to be frank I think many modern day prog bands try to hard to be ‘grand’ and complex, and loses focus on creating really good songs on the way.
9. What talks to your heart and soul in music?
It has to be honesty. It doesn’t matter what kind of music it is. Bill Fay can write a really clichéd song that goes right to the heart because he really feels the song himself. That reflects back on the listener. A huge arrangement and virtuoso playing can not save a hollow song. It only leaves a foul taste.
